Theme: The Color Purple

Goal/Objective: Identify objects of the color purple; be able to recognize all colors of rainbow after the end of all weekly colored themes.                

Literacy/Language: Sing: COLOR HOP,  Learn sign 'Purple": Fold your dominant hand into a fist. Extend your pointer, middle, and thumb. Place your thumb on the first knuckle of your middle finger. Place your hand in neutral space a foot in front of your dominant shoulder.  Then rotate your hand so your palm is facing your non-dominant side. Then rotate your hand from the wrist until your palm is facing down. Repeat this in a shaking motion.

COLOR HOP (tune of Old McDonald) I see something that is purple.Do you see it too?I see something that is purple.HOP there if you do.With a hop, hop here,And a hop, hop there. Hurry up! Hop it up!Hop as fast as you dare.I see something that is purple.Do you see it too?

Cognitive Development:  HIding Game: Hide an obvious purple object that is new to the classroom somewhere in the classroom.  Go on a hunt and try to find that object, hiding it in several different places and giving each child a chance to find the object.

Gross Motor:  Bop the Balloon: Bring in a couple of purple balloons and at the park or at the playground have the children try to keep them in the air by bopping them with their hands, head, or feet.  Jumping song: sing jumping song for every child and form a circle around them, have them jump up and down until the song moves to another child.

Fine Motor: Stringing activity: string purple colored wagon-wheel pasta beads onto purple yarn as a necklace using strong hand-eye coordination. Blocks: stacking only purple blocks ontop of each other.

Sensory Development: Color Mix: Mix paint or food coloring that is red and blue into a jar and watch it turn purple. Grapes: Bring in purple grapes and green grapes, cut them up and serve them.  Which color of grapes does the child like the best? Shaving Creme: Color some shaving creme purple, then let the children feel the texture, recognize the color of it, and spread it onto a peice of purple paper.

Social Development: The Name Game: Sing the name game with each child's name.
